At More Than Medicine Healthcare, our mission is to provide comprehensive, compassionate primary care to individuals of all ages and conditions, while specializing in the use of food as medicine to support and enhance the health of those living with autoimmune disorders. We are dedicated to integrating evidence-based nutritional strategies into our holistic approach to healthcare, empowering our patients to achieve optimal well-being through personalized, preventative, and innovative care.
The problem with our healthcare system is that there is high cost and not high quality. Long wait times, middlemen, and high costs plague the healthcare system. In the United States, Direct primary care (DPC) is a type of primary care billing and payment arrangement made between patients and medical practitioners without sending claims to insurance providers. An affordable membership fee is the only payment model that can provide you with extraordinary access to your primary care practitioners. It is a unique alternative payment model. There are no co-pays, fee-for-service payments, or third party billing. Fortunately at this practice if you have insurance, under a hybrid model, we also accept various insurances. The defining element of DPC is an enduring and trusting relationship between a patient and their primary care practitioner. DPC laws have been passed in 32 states with pending legislation in 12 states. Ohio is one of the states that has embraced the DPC model.
It's imaginable to have a healthcare system in which providers are able to help patients take more responsibility for their own health so they don't have to rely on multiple medications, risky procedures, and expensive hospital admissions. Lifestyle Medicine takes a holistic approach to treating disease despite conventional medicine's emphasis on medication and treatments used to manage disease. There are times when treating diseases with drugs and procedures might be needed but when possible, a non-invasive, practical approach is ideal to get to the root cause of disease. Lifestyle Medicine (LM) involves just that...the use of evidence-based modalities, such as a predominantly whole food, plant-based diet, regular physical activity, adequate sleep, stress management, and avoidance of risky substance use, to prevent, treat, and potentially reverse chronic diseases.
Check out this great video explaining the difference between conventional versus alternative (lifestyle) medicine.

Roshauna Lindsey, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, WCC is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). She is certified in skin/wound care through the Wound Care Education Institute. She also holds an X-waiver under the Drug Addiction Treatment Act (DATA 2000) giving her authorization to use buprenorphine for the outpatient treatment of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). She has 27 years of nursing experience. She has used her experience to advance in different areas of leadership in the hospital, nursing homes, and the community.
Roshauna has provided lectures to nursing students pursuing their bachelors degree, held annual health fairs for the community, presented monthly lectures on skin/wound care and prevention in a long-term care facility, and precepted several nurse practitioner students. She values those placed in her care and loves to empower others. This is prevalent in her work in Addiction Medicine. She has been a champion and advocate for Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) among those suffering in the opioid crisis for the last four years. Her expertise in this area has allowed her to obtain a waiver to treat OUD among a greater population. She has a diverse background in the field of nursing which includes working with pediatrics as a school nurse, cared for injured student athletes along the sidelines, assisting intellectually disabled children, in-patient behavioral health, OUD, prison nursing, primary family care, the elderly in nursing homes, medical-surgical patients, those needing skin/wound care, community health, and the President of the Nurses’ Guild for several church congregations, and currently a member of the Medical Team at CityGate Church.
Roshauna believes good health is something worth investing in and is best achieved through teamwork among the medical provider, patient, and family. Roshauna also understands that it takes the support of others in the medical field to help provide well-rounded care to each patient. That is why she collaborates with other medical providers to help achieve optimum health and remove disease at each patient encounter. This will result in a reduced number of emergency department visits and hospital admissions. This team approach not only improves one’s health but can also save costs among the healthcare system. She believes that it takes More Than Medicine to accomplish this.
At More Than Medicine, we want to not mask the symptoms of disease by using only medicine but adopt an integrated approach by finding the root cause of disease. This involves collecting a thorough health history, examination, and health education that meets the needs of the individual. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to obtaining optimum health. Two-way communication that produces a partnership between the patient and the provider is essential. So, after the initial in-person visit, a patient can use telehealth as an option. Having options that align with lifestyle and specific health needs is the key to a healthy, fulfilled, and productive life.
Roshauna is interested in empowering patients and helping them reclaim their health. This is done by having a strong partnership with each patient. The goal of each encounter is to serve, inspire, educate, and encourage each patient that a healthy life with prevention of disease is possible.
It's important to Roshauna to spend time with patients, which is one of the reasons why she founded More Than Medicine Healthcare. Unfortunately, because of all the bureaucracy and paperwork, the current system does not allow a health care provider to create strong relationships with their patients.
As a client-centered healthcare company, More Than Medicine Healthcare believes we should be able to hear our patients' stories, help them understand their illness, and collaborate with them to develop a plan based on evidence to address root causes. We believe deeply in spending time with you, understanding your needs, and fully evaluating your condition and ability to address the underlying issues leading to that condition.
The benefits of this approach are remarkable. Not only does this significantly improve your health, it reduces the money you spend on healthcare and increases the time you can spend doing things you enjoy -- including spending more time with those you love.
For patients that are looking for a new approach to healthcare and discover the art of healing the mind, body, and soul, More Than Medicine is the answer. Book an appointment online or over the phone to learn more about all that this practice offers and start on the path toward health and wellness.
